Start with the connection already in your garden. A timer fitted to a tap, a controller fitted to an irrigation valve, and a multi-zone controller solve different installation problems. This guide helps you choose a starting point for a UAE villa garden, nursery corner or group of pots, then prepare the information needed to confirm compatibility.

A watering program is not a watering zone

A program describes when watering starts and how long it runs. A zone is a separately controlled area or outlet. A timer with 16 programs does not necessarily operate 16 zones. Check the number of independently controlled outlets, then decide whether the plants connected to each outlet can share one schedule.

Check the water supply before choosing the timer

A timer opens and closes the water path; it does not raise pressure or replace a pump. Record the source, connection size and pressure while water is flowing. A gravity-fed tank needs equipment explicitly suitable for the available pressure. Check filtration and any pressure regulation against the emitter and timer instructions.

  • Photograph the tap and any existing adapters.
  • State whether water comes from a pump, mains supply or tank.
  • Include the distance to the furthest plant and any height difference.

Estimate emitter demand, then check the complete system

For example, 40 emitters rated at 2 litres per hour have a combined nominal demand of 80 litres per hour, or about 1.33 litres per minute. This is an emitter total, not a pump-sizing result: the pressure required by the emitters and losses through pipes, filters and valves still matter. It also does not tell you how many minutes to irrigate; that depends on the crop, growing medium, weather and observed drainage.

Match controller power to the valve

Identify the exact valve and solenoid before replacing a controller. Hunter's NODE documentation specifies a DC-latching solenoid for its battery-operated controller. Do not assume that a mains-powered controller for 24 VAC valves can operate the same solenoid. For a Wi-Fi model, confirm network requirements and what continues to work when the connection is unavailable.

Prepare one complete quotation request

Send the following details together so that the quotation can distinguish the controller from adapters, valves, filters and installation work. Availability, supplied model, accessories and delivery are confirmed in the quotation.

  • Emirate, garden sketch and required date
  • Plant count and separately watered areas
  • Tap or valve photo, connection size and model
  • Water source, operating pressure and longest pipe run
  • Available power, required controls and installation scope
