Insect net is both a crop-protection barrier and part of the greenhouse ventilation system. The right specification must exclude the target pest without creating more heat and humidity than the crop and cooling system can manage.

Define the pest before the mesh

Start with the smallest pest that must be excluded and the crop's risk profile. Mesh count alone is not enough: request the actual aperture dimensions, thread diameter and open-area percentage because products with a similar mesh label can move air differently.

  • Target pest and crop sensitivity
  • Aperture size and thread diameter
  • Open-area percentage
  • Supplier test data and sample

Balance exclusion with ventilation

Finer nets normally create greater airflow resistance. Review roof and side vent area, fan capacity, pad-and-fan operation and prevailing wind before changing the net specification. A ventilation calculation is especially important when retrofitting an existing greenhouse.

Specify UV life and installation

For UAE exposure, confirm UV stabilization, material weight, edge reinforcement and warranty conditions in writing. Keep the fabric evenly tensioned, seal joints and door interfaces, protect it from sharp profiles and inspect high-load corners after wind events.
