Tank capacity should be calculated from the farm's peak water balance—not selected from plot area alone. A reliable design separates nominal volume from usable storage and includes crop demand, cooling, flushing, source interruptions and operational reserve.

Build the peak-day water balance

Add peak crop irrigation, pad-and-fan or fogging demand, filter backwash, line flushing, mixing and domestic or packhouse use where applicable. Use local summer design conditions and the actual planted area; annual averages can undersize storage during the critical week.

  • Peak irrigation demand
  • Cooling and humidification water
  • Backwash and flushing allowance
  • Emergency reserve duration

Nominal volume is not usable volume

Allow for freeboard, minimum pump suction level, sediment zone and inaccessible residual water. Confirm the liner, inlet, overflow, drain, outlet and anti-vortex arrangement so the operating level range matches the pump and fertigation system.

Specify the complete installed system

A commercial quotation should state shell material and coating, liner grade, roof or cover, foundation requirement, access ladder, level indication, fittings, wind design, installation, testing and warranty. Water analysis is required to check liner and fitting compatibility.
